The Costa Blanca
The southern Costa Blanca,
located on Spain's stunningly beautiful eastern coast, is part of the
province of Alicante and one of the country's
most beautiful seashores - just waiting to be discovered by you. The airports
of Valencia, Alicante and San Javier make access to the area easy.
The
north of the Costa Blanca is very mountainous
and very famous for the skyscrapers of Benidorm, a town which can
accommodate about 5 million tourists a year. Nearby is the theme park
»Terra Mítica«, the only one in Europe.
Many attractions and shows turn this park into a fascinating place for
the whole familiy, where time does not exist.
For those who prefer tranquility and a more rustique lifestyle,
the interior part of the coast is very interesting and you´ll find
old castles, mountains up to 1600 m and old picturesque
villages.
The
south of the Costa Blanca is well known for its
long beaches with fine white sand , which gave the name to the whole shore.
Here, the long golden sand beaches gently slope into
the sea where the clear blue water is several degrees
warmer than elsewhere on the coast.
Alicante, the region’s capital,
is an ancient city whose hustle and bustle is welcome after the laid back
atmosphere on the coast. Alicante’s city centre in particular is
a pretty pedestrianised warren of small streets, cafés, restaurants
and tapas bars on every other corner.
Guardamar del Segura is outstanding because of the
natural reserve of dunes and pine forest.
At the heart of the southern Costa Blanca is the town of Torrevieja,
with the natural salt lakes closed off from the Mediterranean
Sea, which is renowned for its health-giving properties
due to a high salt concentration in the water. Torrevieja offers a long
promenade with a lot of small shops, cafes and restaurants and in summer
the townhall offers many cultural events.
In interior part you will find the villages of Elda, Petrer,
Sax and Villena - each one with its own middle age castle
and lots of history ...
The
climate of the Costa Blanca is mediterranean and with approximately
2800 hours of sunshine each year has it an average temperature
of 19'3° C, which makes the province of Alicante
the place to enjoy leisure and holidays, because it is possible to live
outside nearly every day of the year.
The blossom of the almond trees in February
is a wonderful experience and you should not miss a trip at this time
to enjoy the abundacy of pink blossoms in contrast with the dark trunks.
You can swim in the mediterranean sea from May to October and
in the remaining months you could use the climatized and heated public
pools in Torrevieja, Elche, Guardamar an in other towns.
The area of the so called Vega Baja extends
from a few kilometers off the coast towards Murcía. It is
a traditional area of agriculture: cultivating fruits
like lemons, oranges, melons, and artichokes and other vegetables.
Rojales is one of the villages of the Vega Baja and with the urbanisation
Ciudad Quesada closeby you´ll get all the infrastucture for
national and international tourism. Rojales, a traditional farmerīs village,
is only a few kilometers from Urbesgolf and offers you all the necessary
locations for shopping. You will find a wide range of restaurants and
cultural events. It is very nice to have a walk along the riverbanks of
the Segura, see the "noria" (water wheel) beside
the old bridge in the middle of the town, buy fresh fruits on the
Thursday market and visit the caves, where artists
have frequent exhibitions.
All in all an ideal town which offers something for all
the family at any time a year.
